Tools for Exploration

The Asylum Research MFP-3D-Bio atomic force microscope (AFM) is a high end scanning probe microscope that is integrated with an inverted optical microscope.  This integration allows for the collection of both optical and topographic images on many different types of samples.  The power of this instrument is its extreme resolution and sensitivity.  With this instrument we are able to image single strands of DNA or even single fluorophores imbedded in polymer matrices.

Available imaging and lithographic modes on this AFM system include: Contact mode, AC mode (with Q-control), Phase imaging, Duel AC mode, EFM, MFM, SKPM, piezoresponse microscopy, Dual AC resonance tracking, conductive AFM, and nanolithography/nanomanipulation.
