Satish S. Jalisatgi received his undergraduate degree and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Mumbai (formerly known as University of Bombay). After completing his postdoctoral studies at UC Berkeley with Professor Peter C. Vollhardt, at UCLA with Professor Yves Rubin and later with Professor M. Frederick Hawthorne, Jalisatgi joined the University of Missouri in the fall of 2006 as Research Assistant Professor of Radiology. His research interests are in biomedical and material science applications of polyhedral boranes and carboranes.

Research Interests

The majority of the research is focused on developing biomedical and material science applications based upon chemistry of polyhedral boranes and carboranes. These include target specific multifunctional molecular nanomaterials carrying diagnostic and therapeutic functions; use of boranes and carboranes as pharmcophores; and polyhedral boron hydride based chemical hydrogen storage systems.

In addition to synthetic methodologies, we use computational chemistry approaches such as ab initio quantum chemistry methods to study and predict reactivity of carboranes and polyhedral boranes. We also use molecular docking simulations to study interactions of polyhedral borane and carborane containing molecules with proteins and other biomolecules of interest.
